When Melanie adopted Gari, he was malnourished and very underweight: at 10 months he weighed only 45 pounds. By the time he was 1-1/2 years old, his weight had increased to 84 pounds, nearly that of a wild capybara his age. However, possibly due to the lack of sunlight those first 10 months, his bone density is not good enough to securely hold his teeth and a tooth had rotated in his jaw. Left- Current condition, with distended, infected jaw. Right- One year ago, the jaw looks nice and clean.
