The Capybara Contrarian – 3

In this third conglomeration of capybara news, we’ll look at some zoo births and deaths, and anything in between that was interesting. We’ll also do some window shopping. Hardly anything is available in the USA. There is a capybara business opportunity for someone out there.

Happy birthday!

Check out this birthday cake!

There are more capybara cakes than this one. Google it!

Chef Capybara

This is not a guarantee or endorsement, but the teaser for this game shows a capybara running around eating up all the corn. Very authentic.

I told you it would be interesting.

Twins at Paradise Wildlife Park

In late 2023, there were two babies born at Paradise Wildlife Park, in Hertfordshire, England. They are adorable, of course!

There’s a video!

Here is the link to the original source.

Triplets at Drusilla’s Zoo

In September of 2023, three capybaras were born at Drusillas Zoo Park, near Alfriston, England. This park in East Sussex has several capybaras- proud mum Clementine and dad Augustus, big brother Satsuma, and the triplets Marmalade, Tango, and Squash. The competition is long past, but this dandy little zoo offers capybara encounters all the time.

San Diego Zoo

Some great videos of the babies in San Diego. Another big zoo that thinks capybaras are beachcombers, not grazers.

Maple and Olive arrive at Jersey Zoo

Maple and Olive (or possibly Olive and Maple) – photo credit Jersey Zoo

Jersey Zoo has acquired two female capybaras from ZooParc de Beauval in France. That’s terrific but by far the bit that caught me was their origin- a zoo in France that isn’t on my list of zoos! I count on my readers to help me keep that list up-to-date, and now I know that mes lecteurs français m’ont laissé tomber. Let that be a lesson to you. When you see a capybara, take a snapshot and let me know where you saw it. Instructions are in the Capybara Spotters Club tab up there.

Here’s a link to the article. Moving along now.

Hertfordshire Zoo

I’m not sure when the video clips were filmed was but you’re going to love this short!

RIP Spring the capybara, Albuquerque Zoo

Spring must have been very popular. Her death was reported by multiple news agencies.

Here is a link to an article, though the Facebook post says it all.

After that sad news, I am ready to move on to the shopping section of this newsletter.

Lazada merch

Unfortunately, these items are in Southeast Asia. It’s as if capybaras are more popular there than they are in the USA!

Berry Very Candle

How about this candle? (We’re still shopping.) Oops, this in Korea. Check out the owner of the shop.

Capybara tissue dispenser

It’s a shame these are only available in Australia/China.

Oh well, I could really use a few of these for hay-fever season.

Build-A-Bear

And finally, the Big News on Reddit is that Build-A-Bear has a capybara! It came out in several test locations late 2023. It was insanely popular, as you might imagine, and it quickly sold out. I am hearing rumors that it will become available as an online item in April. Let me know and I’ll try to get readers to send in photos for a future blog.

If you see capybara pajamas like this in adult sizes, please let me know!
