It turns out that a lot of zoos have capybaras. Websites lie, google sends updates daily, and capybaras get transferred from one zoo to another at the drop of a hat. That’s where you enter the picture. Could you please help the Farm Manager keep this list up-to-date by dropping her a line? If you send photos, I’ll talk her into making a gallery. If she can keep this list current, we won’t hear from disgruntled customers about an erroneous listing. Face it, you get what you pay for.
Note that there are many zoos in Japan that have capybaras, too many to list here. Actually, I think they all have capybaras. I’ll happily update the list if you let me know where you saw them.

The Cincinnati Zoo does not have Capybaras as of 2017ish. They were moved out of an outdated habitat to make room for a new zone. They haven’t returned!

That’s disappointing. It’s also disappointing to see capybaras exhibited on dirt or concrete. Keep an eye on this and let us know if they magically reappear in a tropical paradise with lots of grass and swimming!

San Antonio zoo does NOT have capybaras. I looked everywhere and paid so much money and there was not a single one in sight. I traveled very far and was super disappointed when the workers informed me that they do not have any.

The tennessee safari park in jackson, tn has a whole oasis full of capybaras! you just can’t pet or feed them.

Very cool! Sadly, most USA zoos don’t allow contact with their capybaras. The Tennessee Safari Park doesn’t even list capybaras on their website! This is exactly the kind of input I am looking for, so thank you very much!

St Louis said they had them. My grandson is obsessed with capybaras and went to St Louis for his 9 th birthday 4/8/2024 and did not see one after waiting hours. No one they talked to knew, or didn’t tell them they did not have them there currently. Parents called prior to the 5 and 1/2 hour drive to confirm they had capybaras. Come to find out the next day after trying to see them that one had died and the other was shipped out. Saddest birthday ever.

I had a similar disappointing experience in Paris. They had shipped off the capybaras the previous month. Fortunately, I was in Paris, so I found something else to do that afternoon. I will amend my zoo list appropriately. Thanks! (If you send me your grandson’s address, I will keep it private and mail him a Dobby postcard.) And sorry for the delayed response.

Twelve is a very respectable old age for a capybara! I presume this means there are no longer any capybaras at Brandywine Zoo and will adjust my zoo list accordingly! They have been very popular at this zoo, so I hope we will soon get a report that they have new ones.
