Capybara Contrarian – 5 Global

This is the fifth conglomeration of capybara news. We’ll look at some of the more interesting news from South America, do some shopping, and some other random capybara stuff. Don’t miss the capybara version of Jurassic Park!

South America
Here we have the usual rogue Brazilian capybara, trespassing. This happens all the time. I think this one was stuck in some sort of industrial settling pond. Eeeuw.

They drained the pond and put in a ramp for him.

This next capybara was hurt in a storm. Click on the link to see the gruesome photo. I’m not posting it here. Poor thing.

The next unlucky capybara had some kind of wrapping tape stuck around his body. He was very hard to catch and attracted a lot of attention. Named Ludmilo by the public, he was captured and treated. His injury from the tight wrapping of tape was examined and then he was released to his herd.

Here we present for your amusement Little Miss Brazil. Apparently in competition with Lady Gaga for bizarre outfits, the skirt of Gabriela’s dress sports 200 little pink stuffed capybaras. Seeing is believing.

Not to be outdone, please note that a “capybara” received a service award at this convention in Curitiba, which happens to be famous for the numerous capybaras in the city.

Cute and crafty
We’ll start with paper dolls.

This adorable crocheted doll wears a capybara hat and holds the tiniest capybara doll you will ever see!

This is a surprisingly attractive font, with adorable wingdings.  I can’t explain the telephone icon among them.

Uncategorized (because WTF?)

A strange but cute little game that someone had fun designing. Try it and let them know you saw it here!

This is kind of pathetic. Not exactly crafty, not especially appealing to buy. You tell me.

If you are planning a special birthday for a friend in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, here’s your go-to bakery!

Capybara or a pineapple past its use-or-freeze-by date? Is it for sale? Is it a crochet pattern? You decide.

This is the capybara adventure we have all been waiting for! Wow! LOL! Encourage them to go for a full-length feature film!

Shopping

If you are in Brazil, pick me up one of these. It took me a while to realize that is lettuce, not a green tongue!

Everybody can use fancy post-its! Brazil, again, of course.

Maybe all post-its in Brazil feature capybaras.

How about capybara slippers or a capybara wristband? What is that, anyway? This shop does have unique plushies. In France, though.

Not in France? How about Germany? They have created an unattractive capybara figurine, encased it in a snow globe, added some blue glitter, and it’s still kind of ugly. Looks like he’s been holding his breath for 4 minutes and 59 seconds and is going for the record.

If you are in Tasmania, you can get one of these.

This Canadian shop has great stuff! I like the green capybaras eating bananas and Ariel the Avocado capy. Don’t overlook the sack of six! They ship to the US, at least for now.

Closer to home, in Minnesota, you can get these pens. They never really work, though, do they?

Sightings and encounters
Disclaimer: I have not been to any of these places. If you go, take photos, contact me. We might be able to collaborate on a blog post. At the very least, I rely upon capybara sightings for my zoo list. Zoo websites are notoriously out-of-date. Plus, now that more zoos are offering encounters, I will be adding that information to the zoo list.

Outside of Brazil, Japan must be the best place to see capybaras. Here’s Café Capyba, in Tokyo, with two capybaras in residence.

In the United States, the following have capybara activities going on.
Noah’s Ark Sanctuary, St. Augustine FL, has an encounter.

Tigers for Tomorrow in North Alabama also has an encounter.

TGR Exotics Wildlife Park in Spring Texas reports that young Finn has moved out into the exhibit with his buddy, Gill. This is a capybara-to-capybara encounter to observe. Will they get along?

Ha ha, not a capybara, but baby giraffes are cute, too! It’s the first day out of the barn for this one. Click on that link to see him in action! He’s a frisky one!
