Dobby the Diving Capybara

Dobby’s first dives were tentative, but his youthful exuberance took over quickly.

I spent a great deal of time trying to catch a great dive on film. Most of my clips show him on the top step, staring into space: to dive or not to dive, a very important question. Then, to leap or slither in like an overstuffed alligator.

Those of you familiar with Dobby will be consumed with analyzing which of Dobby’s seven swimming pools these are. Most will correctly guess that the first wild leap and the featured image are Swimming Pool #1. I confess that I have lost track of them, but there are some clues.

The video has twelve clips of which the first and last don’t count because I gave it away. Take a guess on the rest and check your answers at the end of the blog. No cheating! Well, I might cheat, but I am trusting you not to cheat! This is an Open Book quiz.

My best guesses:

clips 1 and 12 are pool #1

clips 2 and 3 are pool #2

clips 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are pool #6 (look for the rubber ducky)

clip 10 is pool #3

The big clue is the drainline reinforcement at the top edge of the pool. He quickly devoured the first few pools, and #6 was MUCH more expensive. It did, however, have a tasty top rail which I quickly defended. Pools # 1-3 were so cheap they didn’t make it to the eat-the-top-edge status. He ate the sides of those pools. From the inside.

Check out the pool noodle. He chewed it up and spit out the pieces. See how the pool water level is down? Yep, he ate the pool too, and it took a few days to find the bite holes.
